Due to a last-minute computer problem my son’s submission got delayed and although it was 11:59 p.m. on our clock the Common App said submitted 1/02/11. We are totally upset about this. Was all that effort a waste?

I’m having the same issue right now. ): really worried. it was only late by minutes, will it be okay?

I know for Stanford they said in an email that
“Please be aware that we will not extend the deadline for students who experience technical difficulties with the Common Application website” and I would assume it’d be the same for other big universities.
However, if a school rejects you because you were a minute off, that’s a bit ridiculous. Every application is time stamped so it’ll say 1201 [I assume] and it shouldn’t be a big deal.

Generally, from what I understand in past years, as long as the Common App accepts it, you’re good to go. Usually the schools put in a tiny bit of leeway just for scenarios like this. Now, obviously, you ideally should not be submitting it that late anyways, but it shouldn’t be an issue in this case.

There is nothing you can do. I guess he will have to apply as a transfer next year.

you are fine if you see that Brown downloads your info (like Common App and School Info). If Brown hasn’t yet, don’t worry - some schools do it everyday, others wait, and it’s quite possible that Brown will wait until Monday to download all the info.

Has anyone who submitted their application on time have a message on Common App that says Brown downloaded their info?

You’re fine.

If CommonApp let you submit, you are fine.

Yeah I had submitted one of my apps one the 1st, though it said they it didn’t send at all. Then on the 2nd it submitted…was way freaked out, but I had a confirmation email saying the school accepted it. Weird things happen…lol.

Yeah I applied to northwestern 2 days late (the supplement) and they still accepted it and sent me an email about receiving it and interviews

^ Your case isn’t the same here. NU’s deadline for supplements is Jan. 15th.

that explains a lot haha. oh well if i had known that i wouldn’t have rushed it

EDIT: Just checked, and that’s not the case

says “As soon as possible Common Application, Northwestern Supplement,
(no later than January 1) and nonrefundable application fee”

If the website shows the Brown has downloaded your son’s app, he will be fine. I don’t think Brown would reject an app because it’s 1 min late. Although, if you have any other kids who will be applying to university, this is a good lesson learned. Situations like this is why I always give myself a 3-days “buffer” period, for if something goes wrong.

Can you tell me what happened with your son’s application for brown? I myself had a similar dilemma and I’ve been worrying my socks off.
