So I believe that I have written a pretty great essay, it has been looked over by 2 trusted adults, my English teacher and my older sister who has a degree in journalism. It is about my dancing, which has been my main extracurricular since I was three, so it is a huge part of who I am. The problem is that the short answer on the common app. asks to expand on one of your activities so again dance is the best thing for me to write about. Should I write about something different even though this is what I know best and it is my main activity or should I write about one of my lesser activities? Does it matter if both are about the same thing?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Please!!!

I think it’s okay if your Common App essay is related to the extra-curricular that you elaborated on earlier in the app, but the essay should really be about YOU and not so much the activity. They are looking to find something out about you as a person, like how you’ve grown, what you’ve learned, how you handle different situations, etc…

Hope that helps some!

Thanks for the input. I did write in my essay about how danced has changed me as a person. It is definitely more about how it has shaped who I am and about the people who changed my life, not so much about dance itself. In my short answer I plan to write about how dance is my passion and how it makes me feel.
