common app short answer--what's generic?

So, I was wondering what activities are a no-no for talking about on the common app short answer.

I was thinking about talking about my involvement in speech and debate (participated since freshman year, awards, leadership, etc.) but is that too overdone? (i.e. other examples would be like yearbook, student council, newspaper, MUN, key club, nhs, etc.)

Should I talk about something more unique in there? (like independent research projects or something?)

I think the same rules apply for the short answer as for the essay; write about the activity/topic that is most interesting to YOU and that you can be most insightful about. Heh, sorry if that's not so helpful, but I think it's the truth.

It's not the topic; it's what you do with the topic.

Virtually any topic can make for a great or a poor essay.

Imo, find a topic that allows you to be personal, detailed, honest and revealing. To write something that only you could write.

How are you guys writing yours? Like format.

Detailing what I did in a paragraph. Its not that long. Like 10 sentences.
