common app short answer

Can someone please review this short answer for the prompt to write about a work experience or extracuricular activity. This is a rough draft and I'd like some insight on it. Thank you.

"excuse me miss", "can i get some help here", "I've been waiting a long

time" all complaints coming from different directions and to know that

I have 8 more hours of it can make it that more dreadful. Working in

retail was not the ideal job i had pictured for myself. As a student in

the medical field folding and putting away piles of disorganized

clothes wasn't exactly the skills I thought i'd need to acquire for my

future career goals. In my earlier job searches I had tried to look for

hospital positions or reciptionist positions in a doctor's office. From

craigslist to newspapers to help wanted ads, the search was rather

difficult. However, being a finacially independent college student,

siting around and doing nothing wasn't an option either. That is where

retail came into play. Contrary to all the techinical skills I'd need

to learn, in retail I absorbed a lot of knowledge in customer service

alogn with other principles that I soon began to realize will become

helpful in any career i choose to pursue. Responsibility being one, as

an independent student making my own income meant managing my own

money. Communication was another, everyday I dealt with new customers

with different interests and oppinions and I had to learn to respect

them all regardless of my own thoughts. The most valuable lesson I had

learned through my experience was patience. Patience is what helped me

think outside of the box. To pursue things I wasn't comfortable with

and to see what what they have to offer. Patience is what taught me

that taking a small step today will help me take the bigger step

tommorow.
