Common App: Should I include my awards in my extracurriculars section?

I won a couple of awards that I want to list it in my common app. I listed them in the section of the common app titled “honors,” but there I cannot give any description of what the award is and why I won it. Should I also include these awards in the “activities” section so I can give a description of the awards?

If I should list them in the activities section, I already have all 10 activities slots filled up! Here are three of the activities that I could get rid to include two awards that I won:

  1. Family responsibilities: taking care of younger siblings + grandma due to mother’s breast cancer.
  2. Religious: went on a mission trip with a church to repair homes of less fortunate + handicapped (built a roof, deck, stairs for mobile home). (This is the only volunteering based activity that I have listed)
  3. Foreign Language: studying Russian about 4 hours/ week because I am bilingual.

Also a side question: what do people usually list in the “additional information” section?

Thanks!

I’d keep them under Honors, but if you really really need to explain them you can do that in the Additional Information Section. Are you sure they need to be explained?

The two awards I have in mind are the Bausch + Lomb Honorary Science Award and the Rotary Club Student of the month. I think the Rotary Club is somewhat self explanatory, so I’ll just leave that one in the honors, but I really don’t think many people are familiar with the Bausch + Lomb. This award is granted to one student in the entire school every year by my school’s science department for exemplary work in science courses. All of the science teachers must vote on one student to award.
Please let me know if I should give more information on this one.

I think it would be fine to do that. I recommend you keep it short. Good luck!
