If the common app is asking for honors, do they mean something like honor roll? What else would be included in this?
Also, for the early decision applications, the college says that the counselor, parent and student needs to sign off that they understand it's binding. My son sees where he agrees to this but we can't find where the parents shows his or her agreement? thanks for your help!

You could put honor roll, national honor societies, sport competions/awards, varsity letters, etc

purple205, thanks. So if he runs varsity sports but doesn’t actually get a “letter,” would you include that he runs varsity? I’m not actually sure what a “letter” is. Sorry if this is ridiculous, but he’s never heard of it either.

Honors is whenever your kid is recognized for something he did, it could be school, state or national level. What’s difficult sometimes is if your kid was selected for a special summer program, like Governor School, it is hard to decide if it should be honors or EC. My kids struggled with this when they were filling out CA too.

The varsity sports would go under activities, and you would list any honors he got in them in that section. The honors section is for academic honors. There are some directions given off to the right of the section that answer some of your questions, but they aren’t especially helpful. Some of the common things that would go in that section are things like National Merit Semifinalist/Commended Student, National Honor Society, school based honors like book awards, math competition awards. Our state awards some scholarships based on standardized test results and we put those in. Hope this helps!

Awesonmekidsmom, that’s very helpful. Thanks so much

I found this link pretty helpful:

D2 did that. She grouped her activities by Dance, Academic, Student Gov, Journalism, Community Service…For number of years involvement she was able to check off all four years, even though some of those activities were only for one year.
