Is the 250 word limit for the NU supplement a suggestion or maximum? It's confusing because there is an asterisk next to 250 what then says "HINT: a file of 500KB will be accepted".

My essay is 267 words and I don't feel there is anything I can take out.

Colleges are actually super strict about remaining at the word minimums/maximums that they set up. They don’t want their poor, tired, beleaguered admissions officers to have to read more than necessary, and they also don’t want a two sentence essay response for a 500 word limit. Try to sneak out as many extra adjective as possible?

i emailed them about this. their reply:

"Thank you for your email and interest in Northwestern. 250 words is a guide to the length of the Northwestern writing supplement. There is no minimum or maximum word length requirement. Please feel free to write as few or as many words as you wish."

i think leaving it at 267 is fine. in fact id advise going anything under 250… afterall there’s very little students can write in 250 words. the determining factor here is probably quality. if your essay is long, make sure its good.

Disregarding the essay being long or short, it better be good. If I were the adcom, I’ll prefer good but shorter essays. ;)
