If I am submitting my Common App online, do the teacher recommendations have to be submitted online also? Or can they be mailed in separately? I am so unbelievably confused about all of this... If they are submitted online, how do I go about getting teachers to write them? It says my school uses Naviance eDocs... And if they are done on paper, can I just give a form to a couple different teachers and have them fill it out, hold on to it, and then give them a postmarked envelope for each Common Appcollege I'm applying to? If so, can they just fill out one paper form and make copies for each college?
Sorry, I know I'm asking a lot but I am way beyond confused by this whole process and I can't find clear instructions anywhere

Please???

Relax! My son’s teachers submitted their LORs on line, althought they could have used snail mail. And I do not believe that most unis will penalize kids for teachers late submissions. I would guess that there is at least a 2 week grace period.

Ok but if the Common App is submitted online do the Letters have to be online or can you mail them separately? And what is Naviance eDocs?

From what I’ve known, yes you can. You can submit your part in CommonApp and invite teachers to write your rec, and it’s their choice to use paper or online.(It’s said in CommonApp website).
After your teachers fill up the forms and rec in paper, you have to ask them to put their papers in a envelope(official one would be better), and let them sign where you seal the envelope
Then you can gather all the envelopes together and mailed them to an insititution.

If your teachers submit through Naviance, you do not have to do the teacher forms on Common App. Have you already asked your teachers to write recs for you? If so, they just submit directly through Naviance, so no need for you to give them forms from common app. Go check with your guidance counselor with the specific process for your school.

If you log into Naviance, you will be able to see if the teachers have completed and uploaded their letters via edocs, and the date that they did so.

Then when the common application and supplements are completed and submitted, along with payment, the teacher letters automatically link with your application, and you will be able to see this when you click on “School Forms” on the left side.

It will also show you the date that the college downloaded those letters.

So basically Naviance which is a school tool, hooks up with the Common App. which is a College Tool

Oh, and some teachers in your school may not be using edocs, in which case you would have to give them an envelope, with postage, and the admissions office address clearly written; put the college recommendation form inside (if there is a specific form), with your part filled out already, and hand to the teacher with a small sticky note, mentioning the deadline.
And don’t be shy about following up.
