I don't know if this will work but here's my essay idea:

My uncle was killed by a drunk and high 17-year-old driver when I was in 8th grade. Because of that, I'm the president of the SADD (students against drunk drivers) club and have been an active member since 9th grade. I was thinking it'd be a good idea because it's clearly something I'm passionate about and admissions officers love to see a student who's passionate about something. I don't know though. I could make it into a very good essay.

The topic is not what’s important, but rather the execution.

If you feel so passionately about it, and I can already tell you do, then be all means write about it!

A lot of times students write essays about the death of a person in their family but fail to pull it off well because they focus on how tragic it was and how worse their life is now. As long as you stay away from pity and focus on how much better of a person you are today because of it, you’ll do fine.

Also, don’t spend more than 1/2 the essay talking about your uncle. Try to make yourself the star of the essay.

Anything else, just ask.
