Common App two ED schools / notification dates

I was told that if my son wants to apply ED2 to a school, he has to wait until his ED school tells him their decision.

The problem is, the earliest we would expect the ED decision is on the day the ED2 application at the other school is due. And we've already been told to submit the CA early "just in case" there is a problem with the online system.

Does anyone know if there is a way around this? I don't know if it is his HS policy or the CA will not allow more than one ED, and that includes ED2. Our thought was to have him send in a paper app to the ED2 school - yes, he would rescind his application to the ED2 school if he gets an acceptance from the ED school.

And, do the Ivy League schools all give their ED/SCEA decisions the same day? Is there an official announcement for when students are told?

You are correct that you can send in ED and ED2 applications at the same time, and withdraw the ED2 application if your son should get accepted ED. The Ivy League schools send out all RD decisions on the same day, but they don’t do that for ED. They usually come out the first 2 weeks of Dec. Your kid will be notified when the time gets closer, or stay on CC to get the info. :)

The GC at our school won’t allow EDII until EDI decision is out. Might also be a CA restriction, I don’ know. Thought universally that EDI announcements were made on or about Dec.15th and that EDII applications are due Jan.1 (or maybe for a few schools it is as late as Jan.15th), so there is time. Believe Restricted EA/SCEA decisions also come out on or around Dec.15th.
