Is it looked down upon by the adcom to do the common app and the princeton supp? Does it show a higher level of interest if you do the princeton app? Is the adcom allowed to discriminate based on which one you fill out?

No, they don't discriminate.

i would do princeton's online on because it's more personal and they kind of get more information about you

If you're talking about the "getting to know you" questions, they're on the supplement also, so I think it's all good.

You should submit the Princeton App. because you never know if the admission officer is going to even unconciously discriminate against you because you used the common app. If Princeton is your top choice, do their app. it is usually easier for officers to use their application. If you are econo9mically disadvantaged, common app may work to your benefit (it was originally meant to allow poorer students to apply)

I'm not applying for fin aid. My desire to use the common app is more out of laziness because I already did it and it seems superfluous to redo it all on the princeton app. However, I do realize that the subconcious may creep in despite the fact that they are not allowed to discriminate.

we did a survey after the decisions were out. here is the thread

So it seems that it doesn't make that big of a difference.

in her book, * A is for Admission *, Michele A. Hernandez (an ex-dartmouth admissions officer) said that although schools and ad-coms will say that the two applications are totally weighted equally, an overwhelming majority of admissions officers say in private that they hate the common application. the main reason is that most officers are used to their own school's application, and the common app puts all the information in different places. in addition, using the common application can send across an impression that the student's first choice is not that school, or else the student would have used the school's own application. of course, for poor students, officers will usually understand that the common app was used to avoid the fees associated with requesting all of the different applications, but for most middle-class applicants, this "excuse" doesn't apply. the admissions officers obviously won't consciously put the student lower just because he/she used the common app, but subconsciously who knows what might happen?

just something to keep in mind. i don't know if it's true or not, but my recommendation would be to use the princeton app. better safe than sorry.

i think its better to answer princeton's essay questions rather than use one of the common app ones.

Yeah, I might as well just do the princeton app; I don't really have to fill in that much extra info, especially because I haven't even done the essay on the common app yet.

Is it possible to fill out the Princeton App online and mail it in like you can with the common app. I just tried to print out a princeton app I filled out online and it looked really ugly. I would really rather send it in, I just like it the old fashioned way. Putting an app in an envelope and mailing it makes me feel better.

I am applying ED with commonapp.

I am sure that the fact that I am applying ED will make the adcom know that Princeton is my first choice.

Supplement basically covers everything that is on the application. Personally, I find both extremely similar.

Do you think if you fill out ED on the common app for Princeton that the other schools are going to think they're your second choice and not accept you?

Even if you do common app, theres the princeton supplement. its an old wives tale that schools discriminate based on applications - if you're a strong candidate, something as trivial as which applciation you use will not make a difference. common app was made to make life easier -- use it.

Is the Princeton app even available yet? I can't find a pdf version of it and haven't recieved one in the mail even though I put myself on the mailing list. I was able to create an account to apply online but kept getting errors.

It's the quality of your app that matters, not the paper you print it on, not the specific form. Really, use this time to work on your essays or something.

Yea.. It doesn't seem to make too much of a difference, and I like the questions on common app better... gives you more freedom to write about what can best represent you.
