Would using Rice's application improve one's chances of getting in? On their website they say it doesn't, but ...
thanks

they say not and probably it doesn't. However, Rice's app allows you a better chance to put your personality out there (i.e. the multiple essays and the box) Sure it's hard work, but I think "you" can better your chance by doing the Rice app.

I've heard it said that if it came down to selecting between an applicant who used the common app and one who used the college's app, the latter has an edge because they show a greater level of interest. It's easy to fire off another copy of a common app. and just fill in the stuff required by a specific college. Doesn't show that level of interest you want to convey. If I were you, I'd use Rice's app.

It doesn't matter. If you talk to anyone at Rice, they will tell you the same thing. As far as which one you should use, look at both and see which one you prefer, and then factor in whether you want to put in the extra time of using Rice's app. It's completely a personal choice, nothing more.

You have to do the box even if you do the common app- it's on the supplement.
