I know that using the comm app is faster and easier, and works for most schools. But I've also heard that the specific school you're applying to also has a application that might grant you a higher acceptance since you've filled out everything they want to know and is more specific to them. Is this true? Can anybody who knows about this explain more?

No, it is not true. The supplements to the Common App for each school gives the school precisely what it wants to know about you.

Schools state when they join the Common App that they will not favor one over the other. Since so many students now use the Common App, it would be absurd for colleges to penalize those who do.

Chedva)) really? then why would they still have their own applications? I know that some schools are Exclusive Users of the Common App, but why do some schools still leave their own?

I was wondering about the same thing. What's the point of having two different applications?

My theory is that they keep the separate application so they can weed out people who think the college is lying when it says there is no advantage to using it.

I would guess that their own applications are an anachronism, a historical artifact if you will. As noted, many have already abandoned their own applications, and I predict many more will do so in the future. Or perhaps they want to give students a choice to pick an application that better fits the student's style (not the school's).
