I read somewhere that the university of chicago is now going to switch to the common app for the 2007-2008 application season.

Does anyone know about this and if it's true or not?

I read somewhere that the university of chicago is now going to switch to the common app for the 2007-2008 application season.

Does anyone know about this and if it's true or not?

There's nothing about it on the Common App website, and the Chicago admissions site is still all about the uncommon app. Sounds like a myth.

false.

zimmerman or whatever the presidents name is, has talked about it. he wants to expand the aplicant pool blah blah blah. when i was at the admissions office last week they didnt have any definate answers so i doubt it will happen in a few years, let alone 2008.

google it. youll find stuff i promise.

I heard that they'll be using common app starting not this coming year but the year after.

I believe the decision has not been made yet. There was a huge uproar from current UC students when the suggestion was made to start using the common app next year.

Libby Pearson:

"We will NOT be accepting the Common Application this coming year. I've noticed a lot of misinformation on this board, and then realized that we never announced it. The Uncommon Application is the only application we will use for the Class of 2012."

Unfortunately, this was posted on April Fool's Day, so who knows if she was being serious or not? The note does sound kind of serious, though, and if it were an April Fool's joke, it would be quite poor taste, considering the emotional stance most UChicago students have on this issue.

GO HERE AND I'LL SHOW YOU WHERE I FOUND IT:

It's generally been assumed that since the Common App has been approved, it will be in use as soon as possible -- which is just not a valid assumption. More than likely, the website in question made the same assumption.

Look at the second and third paragraphs from the bottom, which are statements made by Michael Behnke and John Boyer, Vice President and Deans of Admissions, respectively:
"The University has applied to be a member of the Common Application. This will give students the option of submitting the Common Application instead of Form One of the University’s application, which asks for similar routine information. The uncommon essay section of the University’s application will remain the same and will continue to be required of all applicants.

This additional option will be available to students in the 2008-2009 or 2009-2010 application cycles depending on when systems can be modified."
That means that more than likely, the Common App will be unavailable for the 2007-2008 school year.

Edit:

Hmm. Oddly enough, the website used for last year's admission was uncommonapplication07-08blogspot.com. Would that mean that the upcoming application process is '08-09? I would assume that the upcoming application process would be '07-08, since it starts in '07 and ends in '08, but Chicago's always been known for thinking a bit differently...

Double Edit:

Well, it looks as if the Common App could be used next year. As in the statement used above, I suppose it depends on "when systems can be modified". I've heard the the Common App is making a lot of adjustments to the system for Chicago, but I would think that they would be able to finish said implementations before October.
