Common App Which Race

Asian Americans are an over-represented minority in certain institutions. Because of this I’ve heard some disconcerting things about it being more difficult to get into these institutions as an Asian American.

despite this and the ongoing struggle of colleges trying to increase diversity, the common app seems rather noncommittal towards race, as it is an optional field.

So as a mixed race student who is half asian and half white, should I even bother with putting down a race, if I do bother what race should I list (mixed race is an option)? in other words which option would give me the greatest admissions edge :stuck_out_tongue:

It depends on the school. For some white is better that Asian, other are opposite. Mixed race is an option and you can self-identify as you feel fit. Overall it probably won’t make much of a difference. If they don’t want you why should you want them? Some schools do not care about race at all.
