Common App?

Hi everyone,

I will be applying as a transfer student from Santa Cruz. I heard USC is using the common application next year. I liked USC's application, could I still apply next year using the same application or do I NEED to use the common app?

use common app

If USC is still allowing the use of their own application, I would use that. I also liked USC’s application; I thought it was more “personal” than the Common App. I remember feeling like a “statistic” instead of a “human being” when I used the CA back when I applied to college.

Unless someone can give a hard fact as to why the CA is better than USC’s application, I would think using the CA wouldn’t make you seem as interested (?) or dedicated (?) to attending USC.

Yeah that’s what I thought…USC’s application is amazing, why did they chose to use the common app now?

^ more applicants, exposure, lower acceptance rates, possibly lower yield, overall its good for business.

^did you mean possible “higher” yield.

common app is one way for colleges can try to manipulate admit rate, a ranking factor in us news. while admit rate will definitely go down (a good thing), it’s likely that yield will as well (not so good thing), because of more number of at-large applicants. it will be interesting to see how it eventually evens out for the ranking.

no i meant lower yield but hopefully the “good” factors will offset that.
