Did most people turn in the Common App?
I feel like the only person who only did the JHU App.

laxfan did most people turn in Common App last year?
Thanks

I used the jhu online application (not the common app)...

I really dislike the common app....there's just something about it...

BTW...the guy who created the common app is from JHU, so I doubt that they give preference to one or the other...

I'm RD and only using the commapp because of technical difficulties with JHU's. :D

more input would be appreciated

btw thanks guys

i used the common app because it was just more convenient. several of the schools i'm applying to accept it. but also by using the common app you get to submit an additional 2 essays, and it can't hurt your case to let them see more of your writing.... if you are a good writer at least.

that was my logic at least. i'm sure either way it doesn't make a huge difference. they aren't going to accept or reject you just because you applied one way versus another.

"that was my logic at least. i'm sure either way it doesn't make a huge difference. they aren't going to accept or reject you just because you applied one way versus another."

Exactly...don't get stressed out about small details such as which application you use...

i only used the jhu app too. now ur make me nervous jose

If anything, I would think that using JHU's own application would be better than using the common application...but as many people have already said, it really doesn't make a difference...

yea, true. avenger go do ur hw and stop checking this forum already! :)

Well i'm not worried about the app 'process' somebody uses.
im worried about the Essays like and2006 said

I could have submitted 2 more essays, and you can say a lot in 2 essays.

nanaijuh...I actually did well today...it's not even 11 yet and I'm almost done...haha

And Jose...I wouldn't really want the adcom to waste time reading the essays on the common app since I want them to spend that time watching the slideshow I submitted and reading the extra information I included...I don't want them to rush through that stuff...

yeah, i guess it all comes down to WHO reads ur app/essays and what they're feeling at the moment (or even who's app they read right before yours!). If its 7pm, and they're tired, hungry, and overworked, they may not want to read another 800 words. But if its a bright and sunny morning and ur the first app they read with a fresh mind, they may be eager to see what more you have to say! Maybe admissions process is like 50% preparation and 50% luck! -__-

wow, you are all stressing way to much -- relax...

As far as the Common App. versus JHU App. there is absolutely no preference given. The adcoms say do the one you want to do, and they mean it -- they really don't care. It does not affect how they review your application.

Last year about 60-70% (no exact # exists) applied via the common application, and the expectation this year it will be the same % or a bit higher.

As far as the essays, as I have stated before the JHU adcoms really focus on the two Hopkins essays -- that is why they highly recommend that applicants completing the Common App. submit the two supplemental essays in lieu of the common app. essay. They will read the common app. essay, but it is not given as much weight in the decision process.

and finally, aVenger is a bit right in the JHU relationship with the Common App....

the creator of the Common App. Online is a Hopkins alum and his offices are across the street from the Homewood campus. His staff is made up of a number of Hopkins alums and they also helped create the JHU Online application. So clearly, there is no preference between the applications.

Guys...I'm not a loser...

The only reason I knew about the common creator's relation to JHU is because he spoke at the JHU Open House during the summer...just thought I should clarify that....haha

BTW..will the adcoms know that I attended the open house program? I know it wouldn't make a big difference...I was just wondering...

aVenger - no, the adcoms will not know you attended the open house by just reading your application -- they can access that information in the applicant database as well as any other contact you have had (ex.had an interview, attended an overnight, etc.)

at some schools the "level of contact" is really important -- Hopkins is not one of the schools. Interest in JHU matters, but there is no contact rating for applicants.

No need to worry about it...

uh oh......i spent most of my time on the common app essay...so much time that i barely had time for the jhu essays...

i'm TRYING not to worry too much here..HElp...!
