Common Application 2008-2009 Questions & Answers

If I have a (small) image in my essay and I upload the word doc will it show up when the colleges read it? xD I guess I’m technically not supposed to do that.. but I really think it helps illustrate my point.

trabia-wind: If the image shows up on your Word document, it should show up when the colleges read it. After you’re done with the rest of your applicant, you can use the Print Preview to see for yourself.
tennisboy1005: Nobody knows. Be patient.

intel isnt a club…its a contest

put your awards down where they ask for awards and if your ec schedule is that bad that your really grasping that hard for straws put ‘research’ again under ecs

simple answer: put intel in both places

oooohh were you in atlanta for isef this past year? i was too! very cool.

5 awards is pretty awesome. i only got 2, and they were lame ones haha…

MODERATOR NOTE to “Multiple Intel Science Fair Awards. How do I enter on Common app?” thread:

I’ll merge this thread with: CA Q&A sticky thread.

So then do I put the awards under the academic tab and in the “honors” box. Sorry, I’m just starting to figure this ordeal out. And I think it is terribly rude of you to say that I am scrounging for “ecs”. I won 5 very prestigious engineering awards, and frankly I would like to state those on my app. I think I want to balance out my mostly art and music related ecs with something in my desire major, engineering. Plus, I don’t understand why my 100’s on hours spent on crafting and testing my project doesn’t count as a extra curricular activity.

I would put it where you have more space. Do you consider your awards “Academic honors”?

Sorry if someone already asked, but where would Certificate of Merit awards for piano go?
I’m guessing “Honors”, but it could possibly go under “Activities” as well, if I stated my activity as piano…

Anyways, if it were an honor, would I put it as national or state?

I kind of have my Activities thing almost full so I’m hoping it can go under honors haha

Is a certificate of merit award for piano an academic honor?
I have no idea what you mean by “if it were an honor, would I put it as national or state?” What?

Um…kind of. You have to perform memorized piano pieces to a judge and then take a music theory test.

Oh I said that because in the “Honors” section, you have to check if it is on the School, State , National, or Interntional level lol.

Is there any way to show that I self studied APs on app?

problem with being an int’l on cc is that others are asleep when ur not. its 3 in the morning PST now but afternoon wherei’m..

could anyone kindly post the list of rankings for USnews 08 undergrad specialty program-finance??thanks

No. Nobody can. Come on post this in another thread please! Put in College Search and Selection. Better still, use Google! Its free :)!

if u know..we have to pay money to have to access from Usnews for the whole list…not free!

I said Google! And there are PLENTY of “free” lists. There is a majors forum here, check up that. Hope you ain’t offended! But lets try to keep this forum free of Non-CommonApp Questions!

Expects pat from dchow

this might seem like a silly question, but when in the EC section it says list them “in order of interest to you” does that mean you start with the one that least interests you and go to most interested or other way around? and on a sidenote, i don’t really see the point of it since i am very interested in all of the things i do. I hate to put them in order

Yeah I know what you mean GBFSTARS. I mean, obviously if we spend so much time with our EC’s, we are interested in all of them.

Anyways, the way I interpreted it was to put the one you are MOST interested in FIRST, and then so on. Right? Maybe I’m wrong haha.

Okay I expect a lot of laughs from this but,
In the “Honors/Awards” section, could I put “Prom Princess” on it and just say it was a school award? My counselor told me that it would make me seem more “well-rounded” and that it wouldn’t hurt to add it. But I don’t want them to think it’s some kind of joke…

No! Its not a joke. If you are a math girl with lots of passion for science and stuff, and if you are the Prom Princess it will certainly blow the adcoms! That’s some Princess! But otherwise …

I know it is encouraged to submit the Com App online but what about the recommendations/guidance counselor sections? Do I get my teacher to do my recommendation, photocopy it, and then mail it to each school with the supplements?
