Yea, and on a similar note, can a distinction on Theory of Music Exam by Trinity College London be placed under academic distinctions?

I don’t think so spidey .. its not academic actually … but if you did like a course or something and the distinction was the culmination of the course, then it can be!!

Gabs91: Don’t you do community service to get that award? You could put it next to the community service you do, or you could put it in Additional Info.

spideyunlimited: Yes, you can put it under academic distinctions. Look up ‘academic’ in the dictionary and you should see why. It’s sort of like getting a 5 on the AP Music Theory exam–you can put that as an academic honor.

Sorry, where should you put athletic awards/?

It’s a high level of academic theory lol, but it’s music related study, so that’s why… because does academic mean only school courses related?

thanks dchow

^ Look it up in a dictionary. Here’s what my dictionary says:

of, relating to, or associated with an academy or school esp. of higher learning; of or relating to performance in academic courses; based on formal study; of or relating to literary or art rather than technical or professional studies

That’s a good tip: When you don’t know whether something counts as academic or extracurricular, look it up in the dictionary. Common sense suggests this. Figure it out for yourself; use your own brain rather than relying on everyone else’s.

sorry but I am almost done, so I need this question answered. I have won many awards for tennis, and you only have that one spot to put Letters Earned; Positions Held; etc.? But anyways, where should I put my other stuff. Should I put it in additional information or what?

give ur biggest award … if u won that … smaller ones won’t matter right??

well, I was MVP of my team(junior year), 4 Varsity letters, and a State Qualifier…those are all pretty important sounding to me haha

and most improved(9&10) haha.

by important i mean the most prestigious … u get it don’t ya? maybe winning the Neighborhood Open was very special to u … but if u won the US Open also .. wudn’t that go??

dhow05: am i hallucinating?? btw … can i send u my essays mate??

ok well if you really think I should only put one…MVP or 4 Varsity Letter or State Qualifier? Its kind of hard to just choose one of these…

How long is too long when describing an unusual EC in an attached document?

Umm … which one’s a greater achievement?? I am intl so I was using common sense really … ask ur coach maybe … or if ur coach is gonna write a reco for u … he can put in everything … and if u create a resume of sorts .. u can put in the additional awards there … or if there isn’t any other important thing u wud wanna say, amybe u can put that in the addtional info …

lolcats4: do keep it to 2-3 lines MAX.

under schools forms on the common app… do we print out the 2 teacher evaluations and the secondary school report? and is that all the teachers use for their “recommendations”?

^ Yep. Teachers and counselor fill out the form and also attach a letter.

Thanks! :)

Wow I didn’t realize it was that simple.
