@hannaners I totally get the feeling that the essays aren’t right. I have so many drafts of so many different essays, talking about things that are so completely different from each other.

@theluckylinguist I have multiple (~5 different personal statement drafts, none polished), working on supplements, visited the main colleges (might do more)

I think actually taking the time to fill out the applications is lost in the shuffle of senior year. I’ve finished all of the common app except the esaays, but that is the most important part! I’m actually glad that my English teacher made our personal statement from the Common App a major grade. I’ve literally been trying to write out that essays since the common app was live. But set a deadline here and now, with a teacher telling you that you don’t want to start senior year failing English, then you’re more than inclined to finish it in four days. I just keep fantasizing about what is going to happen when I’m in college, and at the same time I’m glossing over the fact that I have an entire grueling year yet.

It also doesn’t helps that certain colleges cough M.I.T and Berkeley cough don’t use the common app. But in all actuality, I’m welcoming the challenge. This is what most of us have dreamed about. We’re SENIORS. I just get a tingle every time I stop and think about that. @theluckylinguist I think my favorite part is going to be my extracurriculars. I think we’ve all come to a point where we’ve found something that we love. Doing Science Olympiad, TSA, and entering Intel ISEF this year is something I’m looking forward to.

I’ve been done with everything except for the two CA essays I have to write since August 1st. The first (gap year explanation) is easy, but the things I’m doing is constantly growing, so I’m waiting for that all to calm down… and the second (my main CA essay) I’ve spent the past month crying about because I don’t even have a start. I cannot think of an idea… it’s awful.

You’re welcome @GnocchiB I got scared when I thought I couldn’t make an account because I already signed up the previous year, but it didn’t matter in the end.

I really feel you @LAMuniv . Let me write fiction and I could write for days. But these essays. I try writing them, but it really is laughing at me. Thankfully our teacher made it a grade, so I can do my editing from an actually finished copy. But most of the supplements for Common App schools: Blank

@emenya We had them as a grade in my junior year, but I’m applying during my gap year now, so I was struggling with essay ideas when everyone else was already admitting into colleges and not doing any work, haha.

Hopefully you’ll find the inspiration between now and November. I almost said a month because for some reason, October doesn’t exist for me. If it wern’t for the for the fact that it is September now, I would have forgotten about it too. All these college emails and mailings makes me feel like the deadline is tomorrow lol

I just started my common app and am having troubles wording my EC’s perfectly. Haven’t even started on essay’s yet, and trying to find a way to balance 8 classes, SAT/ACT prep, filling out applications, and essay perfecting is difficult. Still though, it’s exciting. To think that in a year’s time I could be at the college of my dreams is motivation enough.

That’s why I love applying during my gap year - I work until 3:45 and have to prepare for the next day (I work at a school), but then after that I have tons of free time to just work on my apps.

On the other hand, that means that I have absolutely no excuse to not have started my essay…

Another random annoying question but do you think they care about EXACT years of when parents got degrees? I can’t exactly ask and I legit have no idea.

No they won’t care about exact year. I think an estimate should suffice @HeisAidanD

@dopecake I’m not qualified in any of this so take what ever I say with a grain of salt. I would say no. I think its more to clear up ambiguous sections of the application. In the additional explanation I explained why I only took two years of a foreign language. Again, I’m not sure about anything so don’t take my word for it.

@LAMuniv lol you’re right you have no excuse. You don’t have homework gappie! :)
