Common Application Form - Handwritten or Typed

Sorry for a newbie question. Will appreciate your help.

The Common application form is sent as a PDF file.

Is there any software available on the web (possibly free ) that I can use to type my response in rather then handwriting the same text over and over ?

Does the colleges have any preference in terms of whether a handwritten application is considered better vs. typed.

Thank you in advance.

I handwrote all my common apps...all 5 of them ...(and one uncommon ap) i didn't trust the online process 100% , but i didnt have a typewriter and i cant type very well anyway... just print legibly...and attach printouts of your wordprocessed essays and any other supplements like a resume or extended EC list. Write...Be proud of your craftsmanship.

Well, I have the same question
In the Commapp, should I write everything by hand or I load it & type in computer ?I fear that my handwriting is not really legible so ...:)

I've been able to type on the PDF format (click on a line and type away... but your curser has to be in the correct location to "activate" the line for typing - but if closed, it will not be saved. So, if you can fill it out in one sitting, you should be able to run it out all nice and typed... The section at the very top, however, where the name of the school and choice of EA, ED, etc., I could not fill out via my computer... I guess that portion would have to be filled out by hand.

well, i have adobe acrobat 7, so i use that to fill up my entire app in my computer. i don't think handwritten or typed makes any difference. but personally i think handwriting can show the adcoms that it was really YOU who filled that form (with one or two chemical corrections on it), as opposed to Dad's secretary filling it out for you. but that's only if your handwriting is neat.
