Common Application Questions

I just have a couple of quick common app questions. It’d be great if you guys could help me answer them:

It asks you to write your “counselor’s position”. What does this mean? Isn’t it self-explanatory? They’re your counselor. -_-

How did you guys indicate the credits for your current year courses? In parentheses?

Where do we list summer programs, like NYLF, that took place at a university but we didn’t get university credit? There’s the part that says “list an secondary schools, including summer schools as well as summer and other programs…” but UCLA (where I had NYLF) isn’t a secondary school. Confused.

Do we need to report ALL SAT/SAT II test scores? What if the school only requires 2 and you took 4? Can you just put down your 2 highest? And in what order do you put them? Most recent first? Or best score first? Also, do we put Math Level 2 or Math Level 2C for the subject test?

How many hours do you guys have down for extracurricular activites? Mine make me look like I spend ALL DAY on them.

Thanks in advance.

The guidance department at my school said to just put "guidance counselor" (I doubt it's really that important though).

I used parentheses (again, probably not too important).

If you're sending SATs, the score report will include all of your non-cancelled SAT I and SAT II scores since 9th grade. You're probably better off just filling in all of your scores since they're going to be able to see all of them anyway. I doubt that the order matters but I would put the best scores first (personal preference).

My ECs are pretty weak compared to those of others on CC. I have an internship where I spent about 30 hours a week doing research (During the summer only), a few hours a week at the hospital, and a few hours a week in various clubs. Overall, I have probably around 500-600 hours total of ECs and volunteer work.

Hope this helps somewhat (btw, I know I didn't answer #3. I really don't know what to tell you, sorry)

if you'd like to list summer programs that you didn't get credit for, you'd either have to put it under activities, or add the information to the "additional info" box at the end.

As for hours, make sure it is a good reflection upon how many hours you actually spent (and make sure to put in the correct number of weeks per year as well). If you are truthful, it won't matter if you spend a load of time doing extracurricular activities.

In some schools a counselor could be a teacher, or some other role. So just put "guidance counselor".

Parens for credits.

Thanks for the replies!

Does anyone know about the Math 2 vs. Math 2C?

And what exactly is the additional info box for? Do we use it to elaborate on our extracurricular activites/summer programs? Essentially like an extra essay? Because I read somewhere that we were only supposed to fill it out if we had some special situation...like family problems, illnesses, etc.

Also, what happens if our teacher recommendations get to the college before we submit our Common Application? Is that ok?

Another questions: For the Academics section, under Secondary Schools, it states that "If you have attended any other Secondary Schools, summer schools, or programs since ninth grade, check this box." It says SUMMER SCHOOLS OR PROGRAMS. So does this mean that we can put UCLA there (I went for NYLF) even though it's not a secondary school? The section is still labeled as Secondary School though, even though the directions say "summer schools or programs".

I can't put NYLF in the college/university section since I didn't get credit at UCLA.

I'm really confused. So please help!

Under the Academic Honors section, does Academic Decathlon and Mock Trial medals/awards count as "scholastic achievement"? Or should I put these in the little description space allowed for me to describe my extracurricular activities (in that list/chart)
