Common application recs - Will my teachers know where I applied to?

I don't want my teachers to know which schools I'm applying to...

If your teachers are writing you recommendations for schools, of course they will know. Why don’t you want your teachers to know?

Because embarrassing situations may arise…

Then either suck it up or ask another teacher.

I don’t want my teachers to know either :(

I don’t understand how you people expect your teachers to write reccomendation letters without knowing where the letters are going.

…what the fuck.

Can someone who doesn’t want to their teachers to know give a logical reason why? Something like, “I’m applying to top colleges and I feel like I’m showing off by having a list like ‘Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc’” is not logical, btw.

I’m curious.

It may not be logical for you, but it is for me. Especially given my situation…

“I don’t understand how you people expect your teachers to write reccomendation letters without knowing where the letters are going.”

I hoped that we as students were expected to mail rec letters ourselves.

That is precisely my reason. I would feel more comfortable knowing that only I know where I applied to.

Even when students are expected to mail the reccomendation letters themselves (which is not that often), they are supposed to be in individually sealed envelopes, addressed to the school, with the teacher’s signature across the seal. Of course, knowing who the letter is addressed to is kinda an important part of writing a letter anyway…

Indeed, but its not as if my teacher will write me a different rec for each college that I apply to.

Oh well, I can deal with it.
