For the Common Application Transfer Essay, which asks for reasons for transferring and goals in doing so, how much is too much? I don’t like my school which is obviously why I’m transferring, but should I list the reasons why I don’t like it? I don’t want to seem like I’m gossiping or a negative person. How do I go about answering this question?
I was watching a video from sone school’s admissions department (I want to say it was Columbia or Barnard… but I’m not sure), but they talked about what they wanted to see in a transfer application. They don’t want to her you bashing or talking too negatively about your current/previous schools. It sounded like they want to hear what excites you about transferring and what you would do differently or what about the school would help you achieve your goals.
I applied to a few schools for Spring 2016 transfer and so far I’ve gotten into all of the ones I’ve heard back from. I wrote about not liking the major I was in and how the classes were larger and impersonal. I explained how I thought a small, discussion based class environment would help me thrive academically and socially. Just some food for thought. Good luck!
