Some of the schools that are on my college list accept the common application. Just to get some things straight, let me double check something with you guys!

Do I just use the common app. for everything? I'm using the online common app., so I can just print out the teacher rec. forms and guidance counselor rec. forms and hand them to my teacher/guidance counselor? How will I know how many teacher recs. I will need for each school? Is that information stated on the common app. website or should I look it up on each school's website?

If what I'm thinking is correct, then this is easier than I thought! Someone please correct me! Thanks!

Yes, you use Common App's teacher recs and guidance counselor recs and if required, their Mid Year form, too. The information about how many teacher recs should be stated on common App. Go to "My Application", then click "My Colleges", then click on each schools' name and click on "more info". There should be a pop up showing its fee, deadlines, teacher recs and other forms required, etc. Just to double check (especially about SAT's) go to their own website or the CB.com site.

If a school requires only 1 teacher recommendation, am I allow to just send two without doing anything extra?

For example, Carnegie Mellon only requires 1 teacher recommendation, but I want to send them an additional teacher recommendation. Can I just send them two or do I need to call them or e-mail them in advance and give them a heads up telling them that I'm giving them two? Can they just assume that I meant to give them two if they receive two from me?

Also, when a school says that they use the Common Application "exclusively", does that mean that they use only the Common Application, and that they have no application of their own (except a supplement)?

I really like an essay of mine and I want to make sure they read it (if they read any of my essays at all lol.. hopefully they won't reject me before they see my essays). Should I use this essay in my Common Application or would it be wise to use it in the supplements (if the topic fits)? Or does this not matter?

I'm just gonna ask a question here to avoid making another thread, besides I think its relevant to this thread. Regarding common app recommendations. I want to apply to about 9 colleges, all of which accept the common app. Should I print 9 different forms and have my teacher fill out the same thing 9 times (it would be so embarrasing to ask such a thing) or can I just get him to fill it out once and then photocopy it 8 times??

My parents own a dry cleaning/tailor store. I tried looking up this title's occupation to put on the Common Application information piece, but I couldn't find it. Is there another name for this occupation or should I just put "other"?

Also, what should I put for "position/title" for my parent's occupation? They are self-employed, so should I just put "self-employed"?

Another question: we don't have to fill out "legal guardian" information, if we filled out the information for our parents (my parents are my guardians) correct?

as far as I know you can use the common application for everything, and you can just copy the recs (admission officers don't care and no point in getting your techers annoyed) And I believe the info will be on the site of the college.
And exclusively means they don't have their own application forms, so you have to use the common appl. But it does NOT mean there is no supplement. I hope this helps, good luck!
