Common Data Set '16-'17

Pomona just released their Common Data Set for the current year: https://www.pomona.edu/sites/default/files/cds-2016-2017.pdf

Some findings:

A) Pomona is super diverse! Nearly half of the student body identifies as a domestic student of color.

First year race breakdown: 36% White, 10.7% Black, 15.1% Hispanic, 15.8% Asian, 7.06% Multiracial, .73% Native American, 11.9% International, 2.67% Unknown

Overall student body: 38% White, 8.3% Black, 15.2% Hispanic, 14.2% Asian, 7.4% Multiracial, .48% Native American, 11% International 5.4% Unknown

B) The four year graduation rate (92%) and the six year graduation rate (97%) may very well be the highest in the nation. This will help Pomona do well in US News and Forbes rankings. The retention rate (96.75%) is slightly less than past years.

C) 12.35% acceptance rate for males, 7.6% acceptance rate for females, 9.4% overall admission rate, 19.5% early admission rate, 8.8% transfer admission rate. 48% of class comes from ED processes, which seems high. Overall yield is therefore, not surprisingly, the highest it has been- 53.7%. RD yield is 37.7%, comparable to last year. 61% of waitlisted applicants decided to stick around in the waitlist- another record- and of them, 4.2% were taken off the waitlist.

D) Test scores are lower than past years, but not by much: 2010-2310 SAT range, 30-34 ACT range. 92% of students with class rank ranked in the top 10% of their class, comparable to last year.

E) 8:1 student to faculty ratio is same as always, but 70% of classes have under 20 students, 93.7% under 30 students, and only .23% (1 class) with 50 students or more. This is noticeably better than past years and will help Pomona in the US News rankings.

F) 43.9% of degrees conferred were in the STEM, which seems quite high. As psych is considered a science at Pomona, adding it means 52.3% of degrees were science oriented.
