Hi,

I am going into engineering. I was undeclared, but I am most probably entering bioengineering or EECS. What is a good 1st Sem course list, specifically geared for success in the premedical track.

Thanks.

Is undeclared, Letters and Science?

If so, how can you change from L&S to EECS?

Yes, please specify first if you are L&S undeclared or Engineering undeclared.

engineering undeclared; sorry about that

bioE+premed is quite popular...I'd say common first year would look something like:
chem 1a
math 53 (if you APed out)
R1A class
humanities
physics 7a/b

I can also AP out of chem 1A; is that wise?

Forgive my ignorance, but what is an R1A class?

Lastly, should i take any biology classes? Preferably somewhat easier biology classes (so that i can keep up with the chem, physics, and math workloads) that would still look good for medical schools.

Thanks a bunch.

I believe med schools want a semester of chem so even though the premed bioE kids I know APed out of it, they still took it.

R1A is the first half of the reading and composition requirement. To my knowledge, most kids save bio class for their second year.

It'd be pretty darn hard to do EECS and pre-med, since you have to take two sets of courses.
The Bioengineering program has a new curriculum that includes a pre-med path. Here's a sample curriculum from their website:
http://bioeng.berkeley.edu/program/premedmajor.php

I believe med schools require 2 semesters of calculus...which means you probably can't go straight into math 53. You can't really AP out of chem 1A since med schools require that too...actually you pretty much can't AP out of anything except maybe math 1A and R&C requirement. Also, phroz3n's schedule looks way too tough for your first semester.

I thought it was 2 semesters of math? hmm or does 54 count as calculus? because the premed bioE's I know all skipped out of 1A and 1B

also, I think med schools want 2 semesters of writing too, so can't really waive out of R&C either. Yes, the schedule I listed is tough, but there are just too many classes that have to be taken (it's what my friends followed first semester)

On that link for BioE they suggest "Chemistry 3A , 3AL , or Chem 112A , Organic Chemistry2" for the second half of freshman year. Which of these is best to take?

So Im thinking rihgt now:

Math 53 (since I will be taking Math 54 and possibly more math courses it seems logical that medical schools would assume that I am proficient in Math 1B?)
Chem 1A
Physics 7A
R&C Requirement (What is a nice easy course that I can take here?)
Humanities (Again, a nice easy course recommendation?)

It should also be noted that I will have to take R&C again right? Because I did not AP out of R&C 1st half.
