I just received the orientation material. In the letter, they say that the Class of 2011 will have to read a book before taking the exam. Do they mean the Composition Exam or is there going to be an exam during O-Week for this book?

There will not be an exam during O-week for this book; they just want you to read it for discussion purposes. You don't need to read all of it for the composition exam, but it may be helpful to peruse it. (It looks really interesting and not very long.) DS just got his packet in the mail today and he's excited. (Can't wait to see which college he gets placed in) Just a note: most of the forms you need to fill out are NOT in the packet; you have to print them out from the o-week website. They do, however, include the envelope to put them all in. :)

Yeah, I have been perusing the orientation website, before I have even received the materials (one of the few great perks of being on CC a lot). The whole college system seems really interesting; I can't wait until I receive my college assignment! Which part of Texas are you all from?

Austin... :)

don't get too stressed out over the book. if you don't enjoy it, don't read it... you probably won't even go to the discussion. but hey! if it's good, read it.

I don't think anyone ever read the Common Reading stuff last fall. Don't worry, there's not going to be a test!

I think we all ignored it.
