Common theme throughout all three essays?

While I was polishing off my Stanford essays, I noticed that all three have a common theme running through them. They go about it different ways, but all three highlight very similar aspects of my personality. Will this be good or bad? I figure it could bring unity to my application and really emphasize who I am, but then again, maybe they're looking for a broader picture.

I used a similar strategy, having a common theme to my essays, and I was accepted early. In fact, when my admissions officer called me, he mentioned the cohesiveness that such a unifying theme can bring to an application. So, I would recommend that you not be afraid to capitalize on that one theme as long as you aren’t blatantly rehashing things throughout your essays. Good luck.

really? How could you link persay–your roomate and intellectual vitality essays? They’re so different!

All of my supplemental essays were quite distinct. Rather than tying to each other, each presented a more in depth look at some aspect of my common app essay. Anyone else take this approach?

I agree with l337toast on this one. I was accepted EA, and each of my essays hinted at (and one even focused on) music composition (even subconsciously), and that could only just reaffirm a passion.
