Ok...so this part in the commonap about "Additional Info" (it's in the writing section) that says, "Include any additional information that you would like to provide" -- what's that all about? Is this where you try to explain, like if your grades dropped for a semester because you were sick, or your dad died, or because of some other sort of epic personal tragedy, or do you write more about yourself, your ECs??? HELP!

Is it okay to leave it blank??? Or would that look lazy?

It is totally ok to leave the section blank.

I put stuff that didn't fit in the grids. I had I think one more significant EC that I wasn't able to fit in properly, so I placed it in additional info.

I also put all of my AP scores there (there aren't any blanks in the Common App itself - there are for the different supplements, but I wanted all of them to be there regardless of how many spaces they gave me on the supplement).

And also AMC/AIME scores (only MIT and Caltech have blanks for them, but I thought other schools might be interested).

And finally I gave a short explanation on the schedule at my school - we're religious and we have to take mandatory Bible classes every semester. Somehow our school profile never mentioned it = ="

But yeah, it's okay to leave it blank.

it's perfectly fine to leave it blank.
^^ i thought we were supposed to put AP scores in the acedemic honors section?

it is perfectly alright to leave it blank.
it's not meant for an additional essay or anything, it's mostly for 'additional" information as it is stated, perhaps more information about a family condition or disability ou migth have.. deafness or blindness etc etc i think. leave it blank unless for exceptional circumstances that need to be addressed

so what exactly are we supposed to put in that blank? AP scores ?

there is a separate section for AP scores, if I remember correctly.
if im mistaken then i suppose yo could throw AP scores in there
if not, leave it blank. it is for, in the words of my guidance counselor, 'explaining about unsuual and exepceitonal circumstances that you may wish to convey that other parts of the application could not'.

Ok...so I'm trying to decide what to do between the additional info section and the short answer about extracurriculars...I've written a more stylized description of one of my extracurriculars (dance), describing why I love it. Should I put that in the short answer spot and leave the additional info blank, or should I submit a more straightforward answer for the short answer (like "As a dancer, I spend 15 hours a week practicing. I direct a youth tap ensemble...blah blah in such dry words") and move the more descriptive explanation to the "additional info" spot???
