Commonapp activities question

So I did a science research internship a summer ago and so I did research with my mentors and a few grad students. I’m planning on writing about this in the activities section in Commonapp. However, my relationship with my mentors was not very good by the end of my internship, and i am afraid that if i reference them in my commonapp, then colleges may call them and they may not say very good things about me. So tl;dr, do you need to reference mentors in commonapp for science research? or can u just say “i did research with a group of researchers…”

I believe you’ll need to name the organization for whom you interned, at the very least. They do frequently call to check on these things, especially if you make a big deal about them.
