CommonApp "Additional Info" Writing Piece

Hello all-

For the additional information section of the CommonApp, I think I have the perfect experience to write about that describes my leadership experience and capabilities. However, I think it might sound too braggart-ish and wanted to know if I should revise it and how.

"I was elected Senior Patrol Leader of my Boy Scout troop for three consecutive terms during their formative period. We were a brand new troop and I was depended upon to go above and beyond what might typically be expected from an SPL in an established troop. I had to manage recruitment, finances, event planning, and meeting coordination. With very minimal adult support, I was able to more than triple enrollment and establish consistent lines of revenue from fundraising events. At the same time I was working on my own merit badges and advancement, I was also helping around a dozen other young boys succeed. This position gave me invaluable leadership experience and an intimate knowledge of the many diverse facets of running an organization largely on my own."

Thanks!!

The Additional Information section is not the space for another essay. This should be your Activities Essay, cut down for inclusion in a resume, or not included at all.

glassesrchic,

I looked at the prompt for the “Additional Info” section -

“Include any additional information that you would like to provide regarding special circumstances, additional qualifications, etc.”

Why do you think that the OP’s paragraph is wrong for this?

Thanks SilverDollar, that’s what I thought too. It seems to be pretty open and generic as to what you might put here.

You can put anything in the additional info section, if you think the admissions officers should know about it.
