i just checked my commonapp
i made an error in checking that i was in newspaper for 4 years. but i've been in newspaper for 3 years. should i email the colleges?

surely if you were such an active member. your GC made some note of it in his letter? so no worries

Personally, I would shoot them a note. Since you are overstating your involvement, and it is possibly mentioned in recs, they could end up with your app saying four years and a letter saying three. While they might not notice, it's the honest thing to do.

as long as you don't have any recs or info that states that you were a member for three and not four years then there might be a conflict, otherwise just forget about it, the college doesn't need to know that you only did it for three and not four as for ever_after, honesty? welcome, to the real world, where no one cares

I agree, as long as there isn't a chance of it being found out, there is no reason to call it to their attention, because it's not going to help you. Anyway Princeton doesn't care about freshman year that much
