Commonapp essay? HELP

I am new to this site; truthfully, it took me about 10 minutes just to figure out how to post a thread.
Anyway, I know the commonapp essay topics for 2013-14 school year are out, and since I'm a rising senior, I would like to know if these topics are good/bad/terrible???

1.) My tumultuous relationship with technology (how I always used to be careless and how so many of my electronics have died or have had bizarre problems- and I how I learned to cherish these and be more careful) (Prompt #4, or #1, or maybe it doesn't fit at all??)
2.) The new Chipotle Adventurrito contest (something about this, I don't know how I will execute this yet-hopefully working it into the failure one)
3.) My love of airports and how I love being in airports and everything about them (For the place you are most content prompt)
4.) The evolution of my hairstyle/hair color (Central story to your identity, shows how I evolve as a person and my creative side)
5.) How art has evolved my view of the world and how I see things- (my creative, imaginative side- central story/identity prompt)

So those are some of my ideas, and if you guys could please tell me whether they will fit into any prompt, if any at all, and how you think they should be executed/if they fit? anything will help my writer's block.
Oh, and I forgot to say- I'm shooting for colleges such as Cornell, Northwestern, UChicago, Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, NYU Stern, etc.

I love the evolution of your hair! So cool haha that and the Chipotle one seems cool

The airport essay intrigues me. Is it the airport itself that you love? The complex coordination of gates and flights and bags and people? Is it the excitement of the limitless possibilities the airport represents? It could work really well if you can tell some great stories about intriguing things you’ve seen in the airport or places you’ve gone.

write about the airport for sure.

I think the one about airports would be interesting and unique if you address it in a good way.

You could use your hair, but be sure to use good examples and avoid coming off as arrogant or indulgent (have someone else read it).

I also like the airport option. Use lots of visual or sense-related details (how it smells, what it loosk like, etc.).

Good luck!

Airport or hair- depends whether you have a personal story with the airport

I’m writing my prompt about the airport one too- what a coincidence! Hopefully adcoms will see how creative and out-of-the-box we can be :D

The Airport or hair one DEFINITELY sound like amazing prompts! Definitely unconventional and would give admin officers a fresh breath of air from the usual essays about tennis, piano, or a volunteer experience. (NOT in anyway saying these topics are any less, but it is true that more people tend to write about these which is totally okay–its not somuch the topic than the way you write your essay anyway…heck, I wrote about sitting next to the pond in my backyard for Prompt 4 :))

If you finish your essay and would like someone to read it, I’d be willing to! Just PM me. Not sure how much input and help I would be of, but its always nice for a fresh pair of eyes to provide another perspective.

Hey, high five! I am also new to CC & having a bit of trouble adapting. Anyways, I did not know you had to write an essay for the common application. Is there a deadline?

Airport and hair ones sound pretty cool, just make sure you tie them to the prompt in some meaningful way (easier said than done, I know). Some advice I got from a teacher about the location prompt is that it shouldn’t be somewhere you’ve only been for one day or a few hours or something like that because it seems a bit shallow/naive. Don’t know what your relationship with the airport is, but just thought I’d put it out there.

@ScholarsInnovate Here’s the link to this years prompts. Its a part of the Common App itself so its probably due when the application is due.

I would say #5 would give great insight into yourself to the admission boards considering you include your views and beliefs non-offensively. The airport one sounds interesting too!

Hair(personal favorite), Chipotle, or art. I wouldn’t do the technology one–seems boring. Airports seems like you were trying too hard to think of a place and seems a little impersonal unless you travel a ton.

@flu2146 Thanks, I appreciate the updates!
