<p>I have heard that 500-700 words is the ideal length for an essay. You should put yourself in the shoes of adcoms, they need to read so many of these essays all day; an essay that is too long better be worth all the reading. That being said, I think you should be good with 800 words because there is no real “limit”. Though remember, if you can cut out all the fluff it’s probably for the best.</p>
<p>My common app essay is around the 500-700 word limit as well. Be sure to keep in mind of wordiness. If you re-read your essay a couple of times you will notice quite a lot of unnecessary words and this will certainly make your essay stronger.</p>
