CommonApp fee waiver

APPLICATION FEE WAIVER

If you are applying to Amherst using a paper application, and you are eligible for a fee waiver, you may request a letter or College Board fee waiver form from your high school guidance counselor to submit with your paper application. Alternatively, if you choose to apply to Amherst online, you can select the “College Board,” “NACAC” or “Other” fee waiver option when submitting your application through the Common Application website.

Transfer applicants may submit a letter from a college official with a paper application or choose one of online fee waiver options when submitting an application through the Common Application website.

Thank you,

I have problems understanding what is said here, does this mean I can just tick the above mentioned areas when applying online and that's kind of my application "form" for fee waiver, without any hassle of sending all kinds of papers? I'm an international and I'm kind of confused at the moment. Any help?

You need to get NACAC or CollegeBoard fee waivers from our guidance counselors. The fee waivers have numbers on them, so you will put in those numbers when you hit the corresponding fee waiver in the Common App. I don’t think you’ll have to mail anything, but you will need to have the fee waiver form in front of you.

Also, I think the application fee waivers from collegeboard are only available to US Citizens and US Citizens abroad.

So what is the “other” fee waiver option for? Also, I remember reading somewhere, that Internationals don’t have to pay an app fee, but it’s likely that it was just for the specific college. Oh well, thank you anyway.

The “other” is school based. For example, Yale allows you to send information about your family’s financial circumstances instead of using a Collegeboard fee waiver.
