Hello, apparently, on my commonapp page,

I have to write a generic essay for transferring.

However, for JHU and Cornell's Supplement page,

I am asked again to write why transfer specific to cornell and jhu.

So would I have to write a new version for supplement?

or just a small paragraph elaborating my reasons specific to the college?

any ideas?

thanks

I don't know about Cornell, but John's Hopkins doesn't require the CommonApp generic essay. I'm applying to JHU as well -- it's on their website.

I wrote a generic essay about why I wanted to transfer (goals I wanted to accomplish academically and personally that I thought would be reached better through transferring) and then I made it school specific in the Supplement.

You write the generic one. Then you have to write a whole new essay for the supplements on whatever they tell you to write about. It's a drag but it needs to get done.

According to the 2008 JHU Freshman & Transfer Common Application Supplement, "Students applying as transfers to Johns Hopkins are required to answer question 3 only. {Question 3: Transfers only: Please explain in detail why you wish to transfer to Johns Hopkins University.} The Common Application essay is not required of transfer applicants."

Not required, meaning optional. You can complete both the Common Application transfer essay and JHU supplement essay if you'd like, however, only the supplement essay is required.

If you have any further questions, the JHU Transfer FAQ site is rather helpful:

Good luck! :)
