<p>Do you think it would be too personal or depressing if I wrote about my dad's gambling problem and how it affected my family and I? He's stolen our life-savings once, and my mom continued to help bail him out every time he went into debt gambling. Obviously, this leads to many, many fights between my parents, and every time they fight, I end up feeling self-pity and anger. That's why I hope to be able to get into a good college, get a good job and provide not just for me, but for my mom.</p>

BTW I think there’s nothing “too personal” in ca essay, because the idea of application essay is to present your personal character and feelings : )</p>
