I applied to Yale early action with commonapp. Now I'm back to commonapp to work on other colleges' applications. Is there no way to make changes/add to my application even after yale EA has already been decided? I mean, I won an important award in the interval between yale application and now, and I also wish to replace my commonapp essay, which I recently realized that I had taken the wrong approach. Am I too late? But that seems so obsolote.

*bump
I really need this. I just realized that I had also raised my ACT score after I had applied to yale.

Um...I know you can make an alternate version of your Common App. It explains somewhere on the website where to do it and all the details...I think FAQs. You can only make an alternate version after you have submitted the app to at least one school. It transfers all your info over, then you add schools and whatnot, I think. I haven't done it yet, but I plan to.

However, I'm really new to this whole thing so, I could be wrong. Check it out.

I believe an alternate version will give you a new common app ID number--so if you've already given your counselor/teachers your recs with your original ID #, you might run into problems.

I'm having this same problem myself...and I've already given everyone everything, so I guess I'm stuck with my app. Bah.

If the alternate versions don't work out for you, you could always e-mail your adcom your updated materials. And send in your new test scores.

thanks. that really helps a lot. So, does that mean I can even write a new commonapp essay to replace my old, not as ideal, one? Can I do that even to yale for regular decision?

No prob. I'm not sure about Yale specifically, but I know some other schools (ie. UChicago) let you write a new essay if you're deferred. I would ask them in an e-mail.
