CommonApp Topic of Your Choice

I answered this essay question for MIT:

An application to MIT is much more than a set of test scores, grades and activities. It's often a reflection of an applicant's dreams and aspirations, dreams shaped by the worlds we inhabit. We'd like to know a bit more about your world. Describe the world you come from, for example your family, clubs, school, community, city, or town. How has that world shaped your dreams and aspirations?

The end result was pretty sexy. Moreover, I am lazy. If I were to use this for the Common Application "Topic of your choice" essay, how should I title it for the Common App? Thanks.

Haha a sexy essay. I'd like to take a gander at one of those. To the best of my knowledge, they don't recommend you title your essays at all. It's a waste of word count. But don't take my word for it.

You don't have to "title" it

Should I write my own prompt though? I never planned to title it; I wondered if I have to make my own question since it is a topic of my choice. Sorry about the wording.

No you do not have to make your own question. just copy and past your essay into the common app essay section

I just checked the FAQs at the Common App website and found this:

"Should I title my essay?

You should title your essay if you are writing on a topic of your choice. If you check one of the four suggested topics, you do not need to give your essay a title."

Now I'm really uncertain. :/

I can only talk to this to the extent to how it happened in our house. Daughter used the common application for all 7 schools which she applied. She wrote her essay on the topic of her choice. Simply clicked the box that she was writing on the topic of her choice and dropped the essay in the space. this had no impact on her admissions as she was accepted to all 7 schools.

JMHO, You are really over thinking this because in the end it is going to be about what is in your essay not the title which you have given it.

I trust you sybbie. You've never failed me in the past. :)

Give it a descriptive but clever title. Avoid doing something artsy like, I dunno, "The Rapture that is Life."
