made a mistake on CommonApp that needs to be rectified. HOwever, on the online self-service system,

"Cornell is currently receiving a very large volume of application materials. During our peak application-processing period, from December 15 through mid-February, our staff will be unable to respond to phone calls or email inquiries about application materials. Additionally, the online application status materials list will be unavailable from now until mid-February.

For the next several weeks we will devote all of our time and effort toward getting freshman applications to selection committees so that they may be given a thorough review.

In mid-February, when our mail processing nears completion, we will notify you if we are missing materials from your application, and we will provide you with an opportunity to complete your application. In the meantime, please do not send duplicate copies of your application materials. "

Does that mean I need to wait until mid-Feb before making those changes?

Nope! I don’t think you do. I’d say I’m sure, but I don’t know what your situation entails exactly, haha.
However, I myself sent a correction (I selected 2010 by accident on my SAT scores, but assuredly took them in 2009, haha) to the admissions email address yesterday afternoon, and just this morning I got a reply thanking me for the clarification and assuring my file will be updated.
So, yes, by all means, send them an update as soon as possible! I’m sure they’ll appreciate how promptly you corrected your error.
