Commonly Asked Questions Re: SATII

Hi,
I’ve heard that SAT Math I is a joke and that it would look bad on my app if Math 1 were to be the only math/science SAT 2 on my app. What are your thoughts/opinions? thanks.

which textbook will be best for either chemistry or physics? is Physics exams harder than chemistry?

Im a junior right now and have 4 free score reports from the Math II test I took in January. Is it worth sending the score out now? What do colleges do with them, since I’m a junior and haven’t even applied?

I plan to major in math or science and I’m planning to take MathII and bio. I want to apply to Georgetown & Harvard so I know I need to take a third. Do they like to see something in a different subject area (USH maybe?) or should I take AP physics next year and then take a third math/science subject test?*

Also, how much do AP Bio, AP Physics & APUSH correlate to their respective subject tests? Will I have to do a lot of extra studying or should I take them right after the AP exams next year?*

And lastly, if I take a test and score below what I want and then retake it, will I have to send a college both scores? And can I send one college two of the three scores only?*

Sorry for the long post and thanks!!

Do colleges (specifically, Ivy Leagues) look down upon taking a language test without the listening portion?
I’m considering taking the French Subject Test. I know that if I take the reading/grammar-based version of the test, I am capable of getting 750+. But add in the listening section and I’m totally screwed…Help please!

Also, I’m also debating on whether or not to take the Lit test. I’m taking Math II and Chem for sure but I know a humanities test is pretty necessary as well, so it’s a choice between French or Lit (or both). My English teacher (a Yale graduate) mentioned that he’s heard that colleges are starting to look at Lit scores less now though (much like Math I)…is that true?

I have a question. Most of forum members in their posts use SAT I or SAT II codes.
On official SAT site you can register for SAT Subject test (only MAth test has Level I and Level II, and languages have option with listening).
Is there any difference between SAT I and SAT II, and how to define which of them you are planning to take while registering?
Thanks.

SAT I is the regular SAT’s. SAT Subject Tests used to be called SAT II’s and many people here still refer to them that way. SAT II is not a reference to a level of test, just another name for the subject tests.

If you’re taking more than one test, are you allowed to pick which test you want to take first?

Forgive me if this has already been asked, but can we get a small list of the top schools (ivy and top 25 according to cc) that require 3 SATIIs?

Thankss!!!

Let’s say you sign up to take one sat subject test. After the hour is up for the 1st subject test, several students leave because they’re officially done, while others stay. Are you allowed to stay for another hour even if you don’t take another test? I was talking with someone after the test and he stayed for 2 hours (2 tests), although he only took 1 subject test, which led me to think that he could’ve gotten extra time on that one test (even though that wasn’t his intention). What would happen in a case like this? Do proctors separate exams based on how many subject tests were taken?

I heard that if you take a subject test twice and you want to report the second one to colleges, the first one must be sent as well. Can anyone clarify this because I will cancel my first test?

I apologize in advance if this question has already been asked or if this is a dumb question, but let’s say I took the May Bio Subject Test. Does the June Bio Subject Test have the same questions?

After taking the Subject Tests (ST) for Chem and USH right after I took the AP courses/exams:

-As with AP Chem, be sure to remember the most common colours of ions.
-Chem ST has a few lab equipment questions, which are particularly easy.
-Chem ST “Relationship Analysis” was a bit confusing, particularly for deciding if the question had the “Correct Explanation” (CE). Sometimes, I would think, “Well, that’s partly the reason why something occurs, but there’s also another explanation … So should I say it’s correct or not? It’s partially correct!”
-Chem ST MC (majority of the test) are really easy compared to the AP Chem MC.

-USH ST MC are a mix of easy-med. questions and rather obscure questions. APUSH preparation did well for most of the questions.
-There are some text-analysis and picture-analysis questions, which may be rather vague or blurry, respectively.
-Pretty straightforward for the most part.

Also, try to remember that there is a guessing penalty for the ST while there isn’t one for the AP Exams.

@harvard14, I would think some (not many) questions are recycled, but the tests will be different. Otherwise, it would be unfair.

@mt101101 & ashley1001, that depends upon each school. Some require all the scores, some don’t.

@koreatagcrimson, You’re not supposed to stay for another hour … and if the proctors did see that you only took one test after staying two hours, they may report it to CB as cheating.

@karaokemachine, Yes, you get to choose which to take first.

@batfan, Colleges start a file that keeps track of what stuff you send to them.

OMG so helpful.

@harvard14: it wouldn’t make sense if they reused the same questions, considering many retake the tests based on a hunch. Agreed, the questions are not officially released, but the test makers are well aware of CC (and other similar places) and its tendency to post questions all over the place. However, I’m sure they twist each question a bit in order to reuse to.

Hi I’m a rising junior in high school. Due to my Catholic school having a different curriculum than that of public schools, I’m going to be taking trigonometry during junior year.

After trig, I plan on taking a summer college course in PreCalc this way I can do Calculus senior year.

Can I take the mathematics level 2 SAT II right after taking trigonometry in June or should I wait until I finish the PreCalc course and take the exam in October senior year?

Does this SAT II have PreCalculus on it?

Thanks so much for all of your help!

Just wondering, but in general which SAT Subject Test do colleges generally LIKE to see better: Spanish or Literature?

Which is taken lesser by students? Which is harder to score in?

Thanks sooo much!

Do unanswered questions count as wrong questions ? That is to say, do we get penalized for unanswered questions?

Are Engineering applicants to schools like Berkeley, Rice, and Northwestern required or highly recommended to take a science subject test?
