Commons landline phone outlet

I know most young adults never put in landline phones in their apts anymore...and use cells 24/7. However, I notice that on the Commons a phone jack is free in every dorm room. Is it common for freshmen to bring old phones to use in these jacks? Or does everyone just forget about landlines when in Vandy residential halls?

thanks for the info!

I brought a phone freshman year. The only time I used it was when I got wrong number calls. I wouldn’t bother with one.

My son’s freshman year roommate had a land line which my son was told he was welcome to use. He never used it. His roommate never used it.

Son had no land line his sophomore year and claimed he would never have used one if he had one (I offered).

He also did not have a land line last summer or this summer, when he stayed in Nashville to work. For the most part, communication has not been a problem, as he carries the cell, set to vibrate, with him at all times.

I wonder if these kids will ever have land lines, or if they have become so accustomed to having their cell phones attached to them that they will conclude that land lines are wholly unnecessary?

thank-you, midmo and silversparkles…!

I insisted that my D have a landline freshman year, and that turned out to be more of a headache than it was worth. My in laws insisted on calling the landline instead of the cell phone, then they’d get miffed that D never answered (she was never there). Needless to say, the phone didn’t make the trip back south for sophomore year!

thanks, kelsmom…and I hope your D’s semester abroad is golden!
