Commonwealth Honors College-appeal?

My daughter was not accepted to the honors college EA. She met the minimum requirements for GPA and SAT scores, but was just over the top 10% in ranking with a 10.8%, so we are assuming that’s why she didn’t get accepted. She just found out that as of mid year grades, she is now I the top 8.5% in rank. Does anyone have experience with appealing the decision with improved stats? Has anyone been successful? My gut says they will not do anything for her except tell her she can apply mid freshman year or end of freshman year.

Once as student is on campus and attending UMass as an undergraduate they tend to have a good chance of switching if they keep a 3.7 or above. Also I’m assuming top 10% was her HS ranking, just so you know the average UMass student was in the top 18% percent of their class last year and will likely be in the top 17% percent this year so top 11-10% isn’t gonna open any eyes with an appeal IMO. Stats below:

Average UMass student last year: 3.78 GPA 1220 M+R SAT (27 ACT) top 18%
My guess would be this year: 3.83 GPA 1230 M+R SAT (28 ACT) top 17% (Given upward pattern)

CHC participant last year: 4.25 GPA 1360 M+R SAT (31 ACT) (Not on link above but they have stated top 5%)

This all being said, I think that as long as she tries hard she probably will be able to transfer in. Lastly, I would recommend the Northeast dorm area assuming she still wants to attend. It is a dorm who’s student population is similar to the CHC dorms. (Strong academics/ many STEM students) Also they look very ivy league as they where built in the 1800’s. GL
