Communal showers?!?!

wow I would not do that ever! lol. I feel spoiled living off campus

When I am discussing communal showers I am talking about an open stall with 5 or 6 shower heads, no barriers between you and the next guy, no place to change and you let your stuff hang loose. They were seriously filthy. I didnā€™t bring flip flops the first time expecting them to be clean. They were not. It took one time to end up with a serious foot fungus issue. These prison showers should be banned especially knowing the current cost of tuition.

Lol they tell us to bring flip flops for the shower (any version of communal shower) even though theyā€™re cleaning it everyday. Unless you have a better idea Iā€™m pretty sure communal showers are efficient for large hall sizes.

My dorm has private bathrooms \m/

frugaldoctor, you mean room cost. Not tuition.

My school only has communal bathrooms for one set of old dorms. And itā€™s all upperclassmen singles. I think thereā€™s only like a dozen of those rooms.

All the other ones have suite style bathrooms which is rather nice. 7 of the buildings have Jack and Jill style where itā€™s two rooms connected by a bathroom. The last two have a small hallway system. And with the cleaning, thatā€™s all up to the students. So itā€™s as clean as you make it.

Yeah, I agree that the words are important. I said that truly communal showers, as in the showers are shared and there is no privacy is really rare in colleges around the US.

So communal showers are rare. Communal bathrooms, on the other hand, is obviously extremely common since communal bathrooms usually have 3-5 private shower stalls.

True communal showers are more or less obsolete. More than likely, you will have a communal bathroom with separated showers. Girls will most likely march on over in a bathrobe with their towel and caddy while Iā€™ve found itā€™s more likely for guys to go with just a towel. Be calm. Itā€™s not bad at all. Wear flip flops or athletic sandals to protect your feet and learn the rhythm of the showers. For a while, I would sleep until 3, get up, shower, and go back to bed to so I could avoid the morning shower rush.

^why not just take one before bed and sleep uninterrupted?

I think that depends on the season because during hot nights people sweat while they sleep

@Descuff: Everyone on my floor took one in the morning and before bed/after working out. Our showers were always crowded from around 10-12PM. I learned quickly to avoid those times.

One big tip that I learned is to shower early in the morning. Most of the guys in my dorm slept in until 10 minutes before their first class, so I was always up early and had the showers to myself. This was usually around 6-ish AM.

After a few days youā€™ll see what time of day the showers are free.

I had a bathrobe with pockets. Put my essential underwear and bra in the pockets. Brought towels + shower caddy. Dried myself up after showering with towels, put on undies/bra, bathrobe, then changed with undies+bra in my own room. I would NOT risk bringing too many clothes to the showerā€¦ once something touches the floor, thereā€™s no hope lmao. Plus we had nothing but two hooks so that was for my robe and my towel. No room for clothes, eek!

Beforehand, Iā€™d get naked except for bra/underwear. I kept a plastic bag in my other bathrobe pocket and would put my dirty underwear in that to bring back to my room so it doesnā€™t actually touch anything.

Iā€™d be too uncomfortable to change with my roommate completely naked, but I dont see the harm in just undies and bra if you both are female.

I mean this is assuming you are female.

Um, I literally just undressed in my room, walked to the showers in a towel, showered, and then walked back in a towel (and shower shoes) and got redressed in my room. Is that weird? Almost everyone did that. I used a towel rather than a robe because sopping wet robes arenā€™t fun.

Does nobody take waterproof bags holding their clothes to the shower and only undress there? I find the prospect of wearing only a bathrobe and underwear all the way to the shower room kinda discomfiting. I was planning to take everything to the shower and only change there. Would that be weird? Does anybody even do that?

I am way overthinking this.

I think some people feel more comfortable undressing in the restroom. So I doubt youā€™ll be the only one.

I donā€™t like morning shower, personally, unless Iā€™m free all day. Although it may seem Iā€™ll be taking them around noon if that benefit me so.

If you are talking about same gender - locker room showers are ā€œcommunal,ā€ so what is the difference?

OMG. Everybody has the same parts. Some are bigger but still. Heres what you do. Put on Thrift Shop as loud as you can and dance down the hall with nothing on to the shower and sing. Just leave everything in your room. Whatever you do tho donā€™t drop the soap! And wear shades.

lol I would go down in my underwear or towel, then come back in the towel to change. if you do actually shower in one big room then just shower and do your business. no big deal. if your not use to it, you will after a while

I just put everything on a hook. Lately Iā€™ve started only bringing underwear and a towel so I donā€™t need to worry about as much of it touching the wet floor.

I started out doing the awkward ā€œchange in shower stallā€ but ended up just walking to and from the bathroom wearing a towel.

But it wasnā€™t a big deal where I come from

I just change in the small area outside the showers. I used to take all my clothes lol but now I just bring my boxers and towel. And whatever I donā€™t feel like taking off on the way there.
