Hey there! I’ll be applying to these NYC state/city colleges and was wondering about their communication/graphic design programs. Any help is majorly appreciated! Thanks.
- Which school has a “better” curriculum and professors?
- Has more studio time?
- Has more practical classes than straight up theory classes?
- Has more accreditation amongst folx in the design field?
- If anyone is currently going to any of these schools for a BFA in design, what’s your experience like?
Once again, thank you! Making this decision is really hard.
I don’t know much about Queens and New Paltz (though I think New Paltz might be good for what you want) but don’t apply to Baruch. At least, don’t count on going there. Baruch is a very business-centric school, and while there is a Fine Arts department, it’s pretty small. I’m a first year at Baruch, and I hear it’s excellent with its math and business, and the Zicklin Business School is where the majority of students end up- so much that at orientation, we were coached on the requirements for how to get into Zicklin, but not nearly as much on how to get into the other undergraduate schools in Baruch. Brooklyn College might be better for arts than Baruch, but Brooklyn, Baruch and Queens College do not offer BFAs- I don’t think any CUNY does, but I might be wrong.
I mentioned that SUNY New Paltz might be good for you, but you could also check out SUNY Fredonia, as I hear that school has good communications programs. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help
City Tech offers a BFA in Communication design. Brooklyn, City, Hunter and Queens all offer BFA in studio art. You will have to look up subspecialities
