Communication Disorders/ Speech Pathology

Hi!! i am very interested in becoming a speech pathologist. However, i still have some questions about it that i am hoping someone could help me with.

1) If i major in communication disorders can i become a speech pathologist or does it have to be speech pathology?
2) Can i get a job(in the field) with a bachelors degree while in grad school ?
3) What is the average salary?

1) Yes. Communication Disorders, Communication Sciences and Disorders, and Speech and Hearing Sciences are all different names for a pre-Speech Path bachelor’s.
2) Generally no. A BA/BS does not qualify you for jobs in the field, and SLP assistants have different training. Also you’ll be BUSY, and many grad programs strongly discourage working at all during the program.
3) It ranges greatly from state to state, but the national average is in the high 60,000s.

Thanks!!!

In Florida it is possible to work with a bachelor’s while attending graduate school part-time to get speech pathology master’s. I believe state universities USF, FSU, UCF, and private Nova have part-time distance learning master’s programs in speech pathology.
