I am wondering where Fordham stands when it comes to recognition and prestige with their Communication and Media Studies program. I've heard of people getting great internships in the city, which is what I'm hoping to do. Does the Fordham name stand out at all among the rest?

Rankings and recognition are not super important to me because I feel like fordham is a good fit for me, but I'm curious about how well known the school and program is.

It is a relatively new program, so do not know much about its reputation. But, it is in the city and the competition for internships is with other NYC schools like Columbia and NYU.
NYU has a much stronger rep for this as the program has been around longer and has a very large variety of classes in that major. However, NYU is harder to get into and DOES NOT GIVE ANY MERIT MONEY. Period. It is also about 9k more expensive. AND IT DOES NOT GIVE OUT MONEY.
So, these are all things to think about. Other schools with stellar reps for Communication and Media Studies are USC and BU, each with their own specialty.
My DD was not allowed to apply to USC as it was too far away. She got into STERN at NYU, but only got a couple thousand in merit money. Fordham gave her a generous package and still has all that NYC has to offer, while at a great school for business in general. She also does not know about the Communication and Media Studies reputation, and she is planning on doing that as a possible concentration.
Good luck!

Fordham does not have a school of Communications (though there has been some talk in recent years of opening one), but on every website I look up that list top programs of communication/media studies, Fordham is often mentioned as a top program. Great internships and opportunities abound. Fordham has had a strong communications program since the 70’s, also one of the great gurus of communication studies, Marshal McLuhan who said “The medium IS the message” taught for a time at FU. Communications is one of Fordham’s strongest programs.

Since you are right in NYC, many of the classes are taught by working professionals. Not stuffy professors who haven’t been working in the field in years. The same is true for the theater department. People who actually do what they teach.

Communications is a common major at Fordham and the internships are awesome. Daughter’s friends did this and they all had amazing internships at cable and major networks in Manhattan. Of course, being highly competitive, only the top students get those jobs.
