Communications competetive/chances?

I imagine DC is a popular place for communications/journalism majors (that’s what I’m looking into it for) but is the journalism/broadcast journalism program competetive? Anyone know anything about it?

I also read from a previous poster in this forum that 99.9% of applicants get in…which I know was an exaggeration, but my stats are pretty low. I only have a 2.9ish, should be a little higher by the end of the year but I’m not sure, it could stay right there. I have a ton of EC’s and volunteer work, will have great recs and high verbal/writing SAT scores (but math is another story). Is this wayyyy too low for American? It seems like it to me.

whoever said that 99.9% of applacants get in is dead wrong. A friend of mine who claimed that AU was his saftey school... didn't get in. He had a 3.6 gpa and 1200 SAT...

you never know, like apply worse case situation u don't get in, but i hate to break it 2 u... a 2.9 is very low. In addition AU's communication's school is quite competetive.

haha i definately know a 2.9 is low.

ahhhhhhhh

how to raise my gpa?

ummm.... study more? I don't know what to say... work harder, meet with teachers and work your ass off... i'm assuming your a soph? if so you still do have time to bring up your GPA.

There is always SAT/ ACT. If it is REALLY high, then that makes up a bit for your low GPA. Also is there a reason why it is so low? if there is a valid reason then you can explain on your college app.

Anyway it is still 2 early to tell. You need to see how your gpa is at the end of this year and next year... (plus you have like 2 more months... and finals are worth like 20%??.. thats a lot study up) and you need to take the SATs and see where you stand.

Good Luck!!!!!!!

suckup to ur teachers
quite frankly, some people I did not expect to get in, did get in
I don't know how to convert the point system, but some kid with an 80 average, and not so great SATs.. got in
but maybe because he's a minority?
either way, study hard study hard and study hard!

again there are always people who get in w/ bad stats, and a person w/ great stats doesn't get in.... idk what to say... i don't work for admissions...

but again seeing as k1231 hasn't taken the SATs... seems to be young... so there is always time... good luck! don't waste it! work hard!
