Hiya!
So my dream job is to be a News Anchor and I’ve been doing a bit of research and it seems that you can achieve this goal with either a journalism or a communications major. I just want to be clear. The school I’m most likely attending doesn’t have journalism, but has communications with a concentration of media studies and journalism, which would be better?
Could I still do what I want with a degree in communications?
Make sure the college you are attending has a student run TV or radio station which broadcasts news. That is really one of the best ways to supplement your classroom courses with almost “real life” experience. Media studies is fine if you are actually taking classes which put you into a simulated media setting (studio, newsroom). If it is strictly a lecture class on the history of media, that will not cut it. Where are you applying may I ask?
@csggirl
The school (Kennesaw) does have a student run radio station.
You could/should look into Mass Communication if your school offers that specifically (sometimes it’s just lumped in with Communication). Other than that I think you’ve heard correctly - journalism is a good to think about along with just communication. Mass Communication and Video Production/Studio Production will give you the opportunity to be a part of your schools production team and that’ll show you if that’s really what you want to do. If it is - it’ll give you experience!
